The earliest history of Father Mathew Bridge dates back to 1014, when the first bridge was built here, followed by several reconstructions. The current bridge was constructed in 1816 and underwent several name changes before being officially named as it is today in 1938. The bridge is 45 meters long and 15 meters wide, with three arches. It was originally designated for pedestrians, livestock, and horse-drawn carriages, which contributed to its longevity and provided great convenience for commuters on both sides of the river.
