Hunt Museum

The Hunt Museum is housed in an 18th-century building on the banks of the River Shannon in the Irish city of Limerick. Established in 1974 and opened to the public in 1997, it primarily features and exhibits private collections donated by the Hunt family.

The Hunt Museum houses a collection of more than 2,000 works of art from Ireland and other countries, including antiquities, fine art, and decorative arts, reflecting the interests and tastes of the Hunt family. The collection spans civilizations from Greece, Egypt, Rome, and the Olmec era, as well as archaeological finds from Ireland ranging from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. These include stone and wood carvings, jewelry, enamels, ivory, pottery, crystal, silverware, and glassware.

Among the oldest items in the museum are artifacts from the Stone Age and early Egypt, as well as the Cross of Cong (a 9th-century cross made of bronze and enamel), a sketch by Picasso, and a bronze horse designed by Leonardo da Vinci.
