Limerick City Gallery of Art is located in a Roman Revival building on Pery Square in Limerick City. Established in 1936, it is a gallery dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting contemporary Irish art, and is the largest contemporary art gallery in the mid-west of Ireland.

The gallery’s collection features 831 artworks by 456 artists, encompassing both historical and contemporary pieces, offering a rich and diverse range that makes it a prime destination for art appreciation. The collection includes oil paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and more, allowing visitors to trace the development of contemporary Irish art. The permanent collection mainly consists of works by Irish artists from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as artists who have worked in Ireland, all of whom have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of contemporary Irish art.

The gallery houses the poster collection of Michael O’Connor, which contains over 2,800 items—posters from Ireland and around the world related to history and culture—and holds significant importance for international cultural research.
