Kerry County Museum

Kerry County Museum is located in Tralee and was established in 1992 with the aim of collecting, recording, preserving, and exhibiting archaeological finds, historical, and cultural heritage related to County Kerry, so that future generations can learn about the past and present of the county.

The museum’s collection includes around 4,000 diverse and varied items spanning from the Bronze Age to the present. It is divided into 10 major exhibition halls: the First Settlers (8000 BC – 4000 BC), the Earliest Farmers (4000 BC – 2500 BC), Miners and Traders (2500 BC – 500 BC), the Celts (500 BC – 500 AD), Scholars and Monks (500 – 1200), Normans and Gaels (1200 – 1500), Rebels and Politicians (1900 – 1949), among others. These galleries chronologically introduce the long history of County Kerry from ancient times to the present, presenting its history from 8000 BC to 1949 to visitors.

The collections of Kerry County Museum include pistols, sculptures, stone carvings, wood carvings, swords, daggers, spears, photographs, and more. In addition, there are life-like figurines specially showcasing the lives and trades of local people.
