Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore Abbey is an elegant castle located in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. It was originally called "Kylemore Castle" and was renamed to its current name in honor of the Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium during World War II.

Kylemore Abbey is nestled by mountains and water. It was built as a private residence by the wealthy British doctor Mitchell Henry from Manchester. Construction of the castle began in 1867, took 100 workers four years to complete, and Mitchell Henry and his wife moved in together in 1871. The entire castle covers an area of 3,400 square meters, with a façade that is 43 meters long, constructed from granite and limestone. The castle consists of more than 70 rooms, including 33 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 4 drawing rooms, as well as a ballroom, billiard room, library, study, smoking room, armory, and rooms for servants, cooks, butlers, and others. When Mitchell Henry returned to England in 1909, the castle was sold to a duke from Manchester. After living there for several years, it was then sold to an Irish family.

Outside Kylemore Abbey lies a Victorian walled garden, which has been open to the public since the 1970s. This colorful and serene garden is highly praised by visitors.
