St. Canice's Cathedral

St. Canice's Cathedral, also known as Kilkenny Cathedral, is located in Kilkenny City, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It serves as the local Church of Ireland cathedral and has long been a place of worship and prayer for Christians.

The present building of St. Canice's Cathedral was constructed in the 13th century and showcases an early Gothic architectural style. It is the second-longest cathedral in Ireland and is dedicated to St. Canice. The cathedral is primarily built from limestone and boasts numerous richly colored stained-glass windows, including an east window that is a replica of a 13th-century original. The surrounding area features many gravestones dating back to around the 16th century, some of which mark the burial sites of notable historical figures. Although the cathedral underwent reconstruction in the 19th century, great care was taken to preserve its original style and structure.

Adjacent to the cathedral stands a round tower of similar height, which is even older. This round tower was built in the 9th century and reaches a height of 100 feet. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a 9th-century "Celtic Christian" round tower and is one of only two such towers in Ireland that can still be climbed to the top.
