James Joyce Museum

James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (February 2, 1882 – January 13, 1941), an Irish writer and poet, and one of the most important authors of the 20th century. His major works include the short story collection Dubliners (1914), the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916), Ulysses (1922), and Finnegans Wake (1939).

The James Joyce Museum is located in a Martello tower in Sandycove, Dublin. It is said that in 1904, Joyce lived here for six nights. The stream-of-consciousness novel Ulysses, one of his masterpieces, begins with events that take place after what happened in this very tower. The museum is dedicated to showcasing Joyce and some of his personal belongings, as well as other items related to the novel Ulysses. The room where he stayed remains preserved just as it was. For many Joyce enthusiasts, this is a sacred site, especially on June 16th, known as “Bloomsday.”
