Grafton Street is one of the two main shopping streets in the city center of Dublin, the capital of Ireland, the other being Henry Street. Grafton Street runs from St. Stephen’s Green in the south to College Green in the north. According to 2008 statistics, Grafton Street is the world’s fifth most expensive major shopping street, with shop rents reaching up to €5,621 per square meter annually.

This street is named after Henry FitzRoy, the 1st Duke of Grafton, an illegitimate son of King Charles II of England, as the land at that time belonged to the Duke of Grafton. When O’Connell Bridge over the River Liffey was built, Grafton Street transformed from a fashionable residential street into a busy traffic thoroughfare. Since the 1980s, most of the street has become a pedestrian zone and has gradually evolved into a bustling commercial area. The most famous landmark on the street is the statue of Molly Malone, the flower seller, which often attracts many tourists for photos. Grafton Street also gathers many street performers, including musicians, poets, and mime artists. The popular 2006 Irish musical film Once was filmed here, and visitors who have seen the movie may find walking along Grafton Street even more immersive.
