Kilkenny is located in the southeast of Ireland, built along the River Nore, and serves as the county town of County Kilkenny. This vibrant and energetic city boasts a long medieval history and a thriving handicraft industry, making it one of Ireland’s most charming cities.

Kilkenny is a world-famous city with multiple historical buildings and sites, representing a treasured and splendid heritage of the entire country of Ireland. Kilkenny Castle is one of the most important castles in the world, ranking alongside Edinburgh Castle, the Tower of London, and Madrudd-vogt Castle in Bavaria, Germany. The castle houses the Long Gallery, which features a complete portrait collection of the Butler family. St. Canice’s Cathedral, originally built in the 13th century, exhibits early Gothic architectural style and is the second-longest cathedral in Ireland. Rothe House consists of three townhouses, three enclosed courtyards to suit family needs, and a reconstructed large garden with an orchard, making it one of the best-preserved 16th-century buildings in Kilkenny. Black Abbey is Ireland’s first Dominican abbey, with most of its surviving structures dating from the 18th–19th centuries. Other attractions include St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kells Priory, Kilkenny Town Hall, and Jerpoint Abbey.

Overlooking the ancient streets from the 800-year-old Kilkenny Castle, the city has gradually evolved into an international fashion metropolis through long-term integration, with streets lined with restaurants of various styles, lively bars, and clubs.
