Clonmel

Clonmel is the county town of South Tipperary in Ireland and the largest town in the county. The area is well known in Irish history for resisting Cromwell's forces during their invasions of Wexford and Drogheda.

Located in a valley surrounded by small hills, Clonmel is a vibrant town rich in historical landmarks. The scenic inland river Suir (River Suir) has created busy trade docks for the town. The Tipperary County Museum showcases the history of the county from the Stone Age to the present and also hosts special exhibitions each year. The former civic building, Main Guard, now houses an exhibition area displaying the development history of Clonmel, including a model of the town from the 13th century. The South Tipperary Arts Centre, opened in 1996, is a hub for artistic and cultural events that attract many visitors. In addition, the Clonmel Junction Festival held every July, the beautiful parks, and the bustling shopping streets lined with unique boutiques and specialty shops are also not to be missed.
