Introduction: The State Museum of Oriental Art also functions as a scientific research institute. It is Russia’s only cultural institution that presents the most comprehensive collection of art from Central Asia, the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Kazakhstan, Buryatia, the Far East, the Middle East, and Africa. The museum’s holdings mainly include private collections from well-known Russian collectors, as well as pieces transferred to the museum by the Russian National Foundation and various institutions.

The museum houses paintings, sculptures, applied arts, and decorative items from over 100 countries around the world, along with archaeological artifacts discovered during scientific expeditions conducted by museum staff in regions such as the North Caucasus, Central Asia, and Chukotka. The collection also features a rich array of artworks from Japan, China, Iran, India, Southeast Asia, and Central Asian countries.
