Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in 1703 and is located within the Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is the most prominent and eye-catching structure of the fortress. The cathedral is an early example of Russian Baroque architecture, featuring a golden spire that rises 404 feet high and is topped with an angel holding a cross, making it an important symbol of Saint Petersburg.

The cathedral was closed in 1919 and converted into a museum in 1924. It remains an official museum to this day, but religious services resumed in 2000. The cathedral houses the relics of nearly all the Russian tsars and tsarinas from Peter the Great to Nicholas II. Its exterior is solemn and dignified, while the interior is richly decorated. The hall features gilded chandeliers and colored crystal chandeliers, with bright interior tones and 43 exquisitely carved wooden statues. The cathedral’s bell tower stands 122 meters tall, an unparalleled height that makes it the tallest orthodox church bell tower in the world.
