The Hermitage Museum, also translated as the Hidden Monastery Museum, is located on the banks of the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city. It mainly consists of six major buildings: the Winter Palace, the Small Hermitage, the Old Hermitage, the Hermitage Theatre, the Winter Palace Reserve, and the New Hermitage, as well as the General Staff Building East Wing, the Menshikov Palace, and the Storage Repository, covering a total area of over 1.3 million square meters.

The Hermitage Museum complex was built roughly between the 18th and 19th centuries. Over the past approximately 250 years, it has collected nearly three million works of world cultural and artistic treasures from the Stone Age to the contemporary era, making it one of the museums with the largest collections in the world. The museum comprises nine departments, including the Department of Western European Art, the Department of Ancient Greek Art, the Department of Russian Cultural History, and the Department of Clock and Instrument Restoration, with a total of 1,000 exhibition halls, 350 of which are open to the public. According to relevant department statistics, the museum displays 1,893,292 items on any given day. If a visitor were to spend just 30 seconds viewing each item, it would take seven years to see them all.
