The Summer Garden is situated on an island in Saint Petersburg, encircled by the Fontanka River, the Moyka River, and the Swan Canal. It shares its name with the adjacent Summer Palace of Peter the Great. The garden features stunning scenery where cultural landmarks and natural beauty complement each other, creating a picturesque landscape that ranks among the most romantic and memorable spots in Saint Petersburg.

The Summer Garden was first conceived by Peter the Great in 1704 and built between 1712 and 1725 by foreign landscape architects as a Baroque-style French garden. Three years later, hundreds of marble sculptures by Venetian artists were arranged along the garden’s pathways, adding a rich artistic and cultural ambiance to the park. In the late 20th century, 90 surviving statues were moved indoors, and modern replicas were placed in the park. The garden offers a serene and beautiful environment filled with romance, making it one of the most popular attractions for visitors. It is said that Alexander Pushkin once chose the Summer Garden as the setting for his fictional character Eugene Onegin’s childhood strolls.
