Trinity Bridge

Trinity Bridge is a drawbridge in Saint Petersburg, Russia, spanning the Neva River and connecting Kamenny Island Embankment and Suvorov Square. It is the third permanent bridge over the Neva, built between 1897 and 1903, measuring 582 meters in length and 23.6 meters in width. The bridge is named after the old Holy Trinity Cathedral at its northern end, which was referred to as "Equality Bridge" from 1918 to 1934 and "Kirov Bridge" from 1934 to 1999 in the 20th century.

In 1803, the Voskresensky Bridge, built in 1786, was relocated from near Voskresensky Avenue to the Summer Garden. In 1825, Suvorov Bridge was constructed to connect Suvorov Square and Trinity Square. In 1892, a design competition for a permanent Trinity Bridge was announced, with 16 entries from Russia and Europe, including French engineer Gustave Eiffel, the creator of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The winning design was by French engineers V. Shabrol and R. Patulyar. Construction began on August 12, 1897, with the inauguration attended by French President Félix Faure; the bridge was completed in 1903, the 200th anniversary of Saint Petersburg.
