Introduction   Located in the small town of Figueres, about 20 kilometers from France and north of Barcelona, this is the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, the world-renowned painting master of this century. In 1974, Dalí established the globally famous Dalí Museum here, which has since become a popular destination for art lovers worldwide and one of the most visited museums in Spain.

Also known as the "Theatre-Museum" or "Museum of Memory" by Dalí himself as the "Surrealist Universe," the museum houses countless works by Dalí from various creative stages, such as The Persistence of Memory, Venus del Espejo, Metamorphosis of Narcissus, The Spectre of Sex Appeal, and Soft Construction with Boiled Beans (Premonition of Civil War). In addition to paintings, the museum also displays sculptures, jewelry, furniture, and other items designed by Dalí.

The design of the museum was completed by Dalí himself. Inside, visitors are constantly captivated by unexpected and whimsical ideas. The most famous feature is the giant eggs standing or lying on the roof—eggs symbolizing life and transformation are recurring images in Dalí’s work. There is also an exhibition hall where several pieces are arranged to resemble the face of American actress Mae West.

Dalí passed away in 1989 and was buried in the basement at the center of the museum.   Transportation   Address: Plaça Salvador Dalí, 5, Figueres, Girona Province.

Train: It takes about 2 hours from Barcelona to Figueres. The museum is a 15-minute walk from the train station.   Tickets / Opening Hours   Tickets: €10 (includes the Dalí Jewels Museum); €6 for groups of 30 or more (reservation required); free for children under 9.

Opening Hours: 10:30–18:00 (Nov–Feb), 09:30–18:00 (Mar–Jun), 09:00–20:00 (Jul–Sep), 09:30–18:00 (Oct); closed on Mondays and public holidays, except between June and September.
