The Palau Nacional, located on Montjuïc Hill in Barcelona, Spain, was built as an exhibition hall specifically for the 1929 World's Fair and officially became the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in 1934.

The Palau Nacional served as the main structure for the World’s Fair. Spanning 32,000 square meters, its design was inspired by classical Spanish Renaissance architecture.

The main structure consists of a rectangular central building flanked by two side wings and a rear building, featuring an oval dome at its center. The approach to the Palau Nacional includes waterfalls and fountains, along with nine large searchlights that project dazzling beams into the night sky.

The two towering structures in front of the Palau Nacional are the 47-meter-high Venetian Towers, modeled after the brick bell tower of St. Mark’s Square in Venice. They served as the entrance to the World’s Fair and mark the beginning of Maria Cristina Avenue.

The four monumental pillars represent the symbols of Catalonia—each column embodies one of the four stripes of the Catalan flag. They were demolished in 1928 for political reasons under the dictatorship but were reconstructed near their original site after nearly 80 years.
