Barcelona Cathedral

Introduction The main body of Barcelona Cathedral was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, while its façade was not completed until the late 19th century thanks to the funding of a banker. As a result, the various parts of the cathedral exhibit different architectural styles. The main structure is predominantly Gothic in style, characterized by its slender lines, while the dome and interior structures display Neo-Gothic elements.

The various chapels in the cathedral cloister are dedicated to the patron saints of different craft guilds. The choir stalls, religious murals, sculptures, and an array of gold and silver artifacts in the Chapel of Saint Eulalia are stunningly beautiful. Additionally, the tomb of Saint Eulalia (venerated as the “Patroness of Barcelona”) and the Chapel of the Christ of Lepanto are also noteworthy.

An elevator located near the dome offers access to the top of the cathedral, providing panoramic views of Barcelona’s old town. Transportation: Metro: Catalunya Station (Lines 1, 3), Jaume I Station (Line 4). Tickets/Opening Hours: Admission: Free for visiting the cathedral; 4 euros for the cloister, choir area, and cathedral museum.

Opening Hours: Cathedral open from 8:00–13:15 and 16:30–19:30; paid areas open from 13:30–16:30.
