Introduction

A work by Antoni Gaudí, construction began in 1908 but was never completed.

Even among Gaudí’s many imaginative creations, this underground chapel is considered one of the most unique. The exterior of the church resembles a cave, blending seamlessly with the surrounding woods. The unpolished stone columns exude a raw sense of mystery. Here, Gaudí conducted a series of architectural experiments, the results of which were later applied to the Sagrada Família. The construction of a vault on a hyperbolic paraboloid was pioneered at the Church of Colònia Güell, visible at the entrance and on the walls of the chapel.

In 2005, the underground chapel of the Church of Colònia Güell was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Transport: Catalan Railways (FGC), Santa Coloma de Cervelló Station. Ticket/Opening Hours: Admission: €4.
