Casa Batlló
Introduction Casa Batlló is an apartment building located in the famous "Block of Discord" (Mancana de la Discordia). Between 1905 and 1907, Antoni Gaudí carried out a radical renovation of the original structure, transforming it into something truly magical. It was awarded the European Heritage Award in 2004 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
Casa Batlló is a building adorned with colorful mosaic tiles on its façade, representing a masterpiece of Catalan Art Nouveau and Modernist art. Its roof is covered with ceramic tiles that resemble the undulating back of a dragon, said to depict the legend of Saint George, the patron saint of Catalonia, slaying the dragon. The mask-like balconies and bone-shaped columns enhance the fantastical atmosphere of the story. The entire building possesses a dazzling beauty that leaves visitors in awe of the architect’s imaginative genius.
