Introduction: The Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona primarily houses contemporary artworks from Barcelona. Established in 1995, the museum building itself is a masterpiece of modernist architecture, designed by the renowned architect Richard Meier.

The building itself has a simple cubic form, but bold facade cuts and the introduction of irregular volumes create a composition of intersecting planes, resulting in infinite spatial variations.

South entrance of the museum: The treatment of the wall surface creates a strong sense of layering. A section of wall completely detached from the main structure is free from functional and structural constraints, allowing it to be designed purely for compositional effect — freely weaving patterns to achieve a beautiful and moving interplay of solid and void, recess and protrusion.

North entrance of the museum: Within the arc-shaped wall on the lower right is a staircase. A gap left between it and the main structure not only provides necessary lighting for the stairs but also enriches the variety of the façade.

Tower at the southeast corner of the main building: This amoeba-like tower serves almost no practical function and seems to exist purely to break the monotony of the building’s lines.
