Primitive Mediterranean Rock Art

Introduction: The primitive rock art of the Mediterranean basin on the Iberian Peninsula was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.

Currently, many of these caves are privately owned and most are difficult to access. Therefore, the Museum of Catalonia has designed a visiting route that provides transportation and guided tour services.

Rock shelters in the Serra de Godall mountain range: Since 1975, 14 rock shelters adorned with primitive rock art have been discovered here, featuring a total of 386 figures.

Primitive rock art in the Muntanyes de Prades mountains: Fifteen sites of primitive rock art have been found in the Prades Mountains.

Cave of the Moors (La Roca dels Moros): This cave has been used by humans since the Paleolithic era for as long as 5,000 years. Local villagers once mistakenly believed the rock art inside was created by early Arab settlers, hence the name “Cave of the Moors.”
