Casa Batlló

Casa Batlló is an architectural renovation and redesign project undertaken in collaboration by architect Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol. The building was originally constructed in 1877 and underwent renovation between 1904 and 1906. It is located at 43 Passeig de Gràcia in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain. In 2005, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudí.”

The most exquisite part of the entire house is where the Batlló family lived—the main floor or Piano Nobile. It has a separate entrance and staircase, embodying the quintessential Gaudí style. The Piano Nobile showcases Gaudí’s unique and irreproducible architectural artistry, as well as authentic examples of modernist fine arts and craftsmanship throughout. Additionally, it opens onto a modernist-style courtyard spanning 230 square meters, providing an ideal outdoor space for large events.

Renovated and reopened to the public, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of Casa Batlló. Also unveiled were the chimneys and the uniquely designed rooftop. The former is arguably one of Gaudí’s most beloved creations, while the rooftop terrace offers a one-of-a-kind vantage point overlooking Barcelona. These are all authentic, captivating masterpieces typical of Gaudí. Here, he seems to have crafted a fairy-tale world where nature is presented in a completely new way, with the Four Elements taking center stage, and imagination running wild.
