Torre Agbar

Torre Agbar is located in Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes in Barcelona and was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. This 33-story tower derives its name from its owner, the Grupo Agbar, and was officially unveiled in 2005 by the King of Spain.

The design of Torre Agbar was inspired by the shape of water jets rising into the air from the Montserrat mountain springs in Barcelona, and its form bears some resemblance to London’s 30 St Mary Axe building. It has earned various nicknames because of its unique shape. Construction of Torre Agbar began in 1999 and was completed in 2004 at a cost of €130 million. Standing at 144.44 meters tall, the building has 38 floors, including 4 underground levels, and offers 30,000 square meters of office space above ground, 3,210 square meters of technical service floors, and 8,351 square meters of service areas. It is the third tallest building in Barcelona, after the Arts Hotel and the Mapfre Tower. Its exterior is covered by nearly 59,619 transparent and translucent glass louvers, which sparkle up close like the scales of a reptile, and from a distance resemble a shimmering fluid that shifts in color with the changing light.

Towering dramatically into the sky, Torre Agbar becomes a dazzling spectacle at night when illuminated, its façade lit in vibrant colors, making it one of Barcelona’s most eye-catching landmarks.
