Borås Textile Museum

Borås is a city located in the Västra Götaland region of southwestern Sweden, a city renowned for its textile industry. As such, a dedicated textile museum was established here. The museum is situated in a historic building built in 1898, which was formerly the textile factory of Åkerlund's Cotton Spinning Ltd. The four-story building primarily showcases the textile history of the city of Borås.

In 1900, the textile industry in the Borås region began to flourish, greatly boosting the development of the textile industry in both the city of Borås and throughout Sweden. The current Borås Textile Museum was established as a municipal museum with two major missions. First, as an industrial museum, it displays the growth of Swedish textile enterprises, including the production of yarn, knitted fabrics, and warp-knitted fabrics, with a focus on the history of machinery and machine workers. Another significant mission is to serve as a design-oriented museum, showcasing and collecting the development of Swedish textile design since the 20th century.
