A gravity-defying inverted pyramid landscape swimming pool

Natural wonders and mysterious ancient architecture aren’t the only marvels in the world—today, there are also many astonishing unique designs. Spain’s “Solo Houses” architectural project, in collaboration with the Tokyo-based architecture firm TNA, has built two inverted pyramid-shaped structures on the mountainside of Matarranya, Spain. The top floor of the houses is even designed as a swimming pool, presenting a unique design that combines the feel of ancient ruins with modern science fiction.

The Japanese architecture firm TNA, founded by Makoto Takei and Chie Nabeshima, recently unveiled new architectural designs for Christian Bourdais’ Solo Houses project. This inverted pyramid, built on the edge of a mountainside, is located in the Cretas forest area of Matarranya, Spain. With its innovative exterior and interior spaces, it breaks away from conventional perceptions of housing and elevates the concept of vacation to a whole new level.

Designed by Takei and Nabeshima, the vacation home features a wide-top, narrow-bottom spatial form that ensures excellent lighting and ventilation. The interior also includes a series of interesting mezzanines and platform spaces. Guests enter through the doorway to reach the middle-level platform of the house, while the lower platform houses the dining area, kitchen, and large windows offering great views. The uppermost level contains four guest rooms and a swimming pool.
