Defying gravity — an inverted pyramid landscape swimming pool

Natural wonders aren’t the only marvels in this world—there are also ancient enigmatic architectures. But today, there are many uniquely designed structures that are equally astonishing. Spain’s “Solo Houses” project, in collaboration with the Tokyo-based architectural firm TNA, has constructed two inverted pyramid-shaped buildings on the mountainside of Matallana in Spain. The top floor of the houses is even designed as a swimming pool, presenting a unique design that blends the feel of ancient monuments with modern sci-fi aesthetics.

The Japanese architectural firm TNA, founded by Makoto Takei and Chie Nabeshima, recently unveiled new architectural designs for Christian Bourdais’ Solo Houses project. This inverted pyramid built on a mountainside is located in the Cretas forest area of Matallana, Spain. With its innovative exterior and interior spaces, it breaks away from conventional notions of housing and elevates the concept of vacation to a whole new level.

Designed by Takei and Nabeshima, the vacation home features a wide-top, narrow-bottom structure that allows for excellent natural light and ventilation. The interior also includes a series of interesting mezzanines and platform spaces. Upon entering through the front door, guests arrive at the middle-level platform; the lower level houses the dining area, kitchen, and large windows with great views, while the uppermost level contains four guest rooms and a swimming pool.
