Introduction

Romeo's House is located at No. 4 V.LO S.Cecilia on Cecilia Street behind Piazza dei Signori (Gentlemen's Square). It was once owned by the Montecchi family, the family of Romeo.

In sharp contrast to Juliet's House, Romeo's House has been largely overlooked. Not only is it situated in a remote corner, but it also lacks any promotional signage or markers. The site is in ruins, retaining the raw, original appearance of an ancient building. Only a plaque above the entrance hints at its significance, bearing a quote from Shakespeare’s famous play: “Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” After admiring the beautiful Juliet’s House, paying a visit here to reflect on that poignant love story is also a worthwhile choice.
