Museum of Applied Arts
Introduction: The Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne was built in 1888. It showcases handicrafts and design from the Middle Ages to the present day, featuring furniture and pottery, jewelry and textiles from the Middle Ages and early modern period.
The museum’s collection highlights include: European handicrafts from the Middle Ages to the present, glassware (Italy: 16th century; Germany: 18th century, Jugendstil), silverware, tinware, jewelry (from Gothic to contemporary), textiles (Gobelins tapestries, silk fabrics), fashion (1800 to present), 20th-century design, posters, and a collection of decorative prints.
Rotating exhibitions showcase and discuss the work of artists as well as the development of the entire field of applied arts, architecture, and fashion, along with various branches of photography, film, and art.
