A museum on an Italian cliff offers breathtaking mountain views

The renowned Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner has opened a new high-altitude museum and education center, the Messner Mountain Museum Corones (MMM Corones), perched on the edge of Mount Kronplatz in Bolzano, Italy. Situated at an altitude of 2,286 meters, visitors must hike up the mountain to reach it.

This museum, officially named the Messner Mountain Museum Corones (MMM Corones), showcases Reinhold Messner’s lifelong adventures through a collection of his photographs and personal items that commemorate his remarkable achievements. He not only conquered all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters but was also the first person in the world to summit Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen. The museum took two years to build and was designed by the acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid. Its concrete structure is embedded deep into the mountain, resembling a secret base. Visitors enter through a uniquely shaped entrance and navigate a series of interconnected staircases inside, where they can explore the exhibits and enjoy a 240-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountain ranges.
