Founded in 1860 and covering 20 hectares, Cologne Zoo is famed for housing over 7,000 animals from more than 700 species. It is also one of Germany’s oldest zoos and a favorite among tourists, drawing approximately a million visitors annually.

As one of Germany’s top zoos, Cologne Zoo added an aquarium in 1971, opened a primate house in 1985, and unveiled the Rainforest Hall and Reptile House in 2000. It has also introduced a new elephant park, allowing visitors to observe a wide variety of marine life and birds alongside the animals. The zoo is home to mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and insects.
