Opened in 2005, the Cologne Carnival Museum is the largest carnival museum in the German-speaking region and also the most modern one, presenting the history of European Carnival from ancient times to the present. The origins of Carnival can be traced back to the Greco-Roman period, but it was definitively established as a major celebration from 1823 onwards. The museum covers an exhibition area of about 1,400 square meters, featuring items used during Carnival celebrations—such as parade floats, wearable models, costume accessories, and medals from various Cologne Carnival clubs. Visitors can learn how people celebrate Carnival, the impact of Carnival on different groups, and how it has evolved into such a beloved festival.

Guests can also enjoy music played during Carnival, treating both the eyes and ears. The museum is open from 10:00 to 20:00 on Thursdays and from 11:00 to 17:00 on weekends.
