Andrews Lighthouse

San Salvador Island is an island in the Bahamas with a total population of about 500 people. It has long been widely believed to be the first island visited by Columbus. With many beaches, tourism is one of the island’s economic pillars. Andrews Lighthouse is located in the northeastern part of San Salvador Island. It was built in 1892 and is a landmark structure at the southern entrance of the Fresh Creek channel. In 1952, a small tower was added atop the lighthouse, and three cannons were also placed in front of it. These cannons are “relics” from 19th-century wars, making the entire lighthouse not only appear more majestic and impressive but also adding a touch of historical gravitas. Over the years, Andrews Lighthouse has served to guide ships navigating the seas and has become one of the area’s popular attractions — a must-visit site for tourists.
