First in 30 years: Beloved swimming pigs in the Bahamas die after accidental poisoning

Even if you’ve never had the chance to visit the Bahamas in the Atlantic, you’ve probably seen these little pigs frolicking in the blue ocean on social media. This tropical paradise is world-renowned for its crystal-clear waters and free-roaming pigs, but now travelers visiting the area are being urged to protect the swimming pigs.

According to a report by Lonely Planet,seven pigs were recently found dead. After being examined by relevant authorities sent by the Bahamian government, it was determined that the cause of death was accidental ingestion of certain substances. This kind of incident has not occurred in the past 30 years.With the increase in visitors, local authorities have decided to implement stricter management, as there have been past incidents of tourists feeding the pigs alcohol or riding on them.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism stated that they have plans to enact laws prohibiting tourists from feeding the pigs, hoping to further prevent such tragedies. The remaining pigs have been confirmed by veterinarians to be in good health, but in the future, friendly interactions between visitors and the pigs are encouraged.
