Bahamas’ Pig Beach: Charming Pigs Enjoying the Sea in Comfort

The Bahamas, an island nation in Central America, has long been a dream destination for many travelers. With seven hundred islands scattered like pearls across the endless azure Atlantic Ocean, most of them are inhabited. Each island here has its own unique charm, but among them, Pig Beach (also known as Pig Island or its official name, Big Major Cay) stands out as particularly eye-catching: Pig Beach is an uninhabited island that, like other islands, boasts breathtaking ocean views and pristine white sandy beaches, but its biggest attraction—as the name suggests—are the many pigs that love to swim with visitors.

No one knows how these pigs ended up on this originally uninhabited island. One theory is that sailors left the pigs there as emergency rations, but the pigs never returned, thus becoming permanent residents. Another story suggests the pigs are survivors of a shipwreck who swam from other islands to settle here. Of course, some believe the pigs were simply placed there by locals to attract tourists.
