Abadan

Attraction Introduction: A city in southwestern Iran and the country’s largest port. Located on the northern part of Abadan Island in the northern Persian Gulf, adjacent to the Shatt al-Arab River. Population: 294,000 (1982). The oil refinery was established in 1913 with an annual refining capacity of 30 million tons. Highlights: One of the world’s largest oil refining centers.
