According to news from the Chinese Mountaineering Association on the 25th, on the evening of the 24th local time in Iran, the Chinese team won three gold medals at the 21st Asian Climbing Championships held in Tehran, Iran—gold in women’s lead climbing, women’s bouldering, and men’s speed climbing. Rinchheling, an athlete from Tibet, claimed both the women’s lead and bouldering titles, achieving a historic breakthrough for Chinese female climbers in international competitions.
At this Asian Championships, the Chinese team sent a nine-member squad led by Zhao Lei, head coach of the national climbing team, and four-time world champion Zhong Qixin. Over the three-day competition, female athlete Rinchheling won both the lead and bouldering titles, marking a historic breakthrough for Chinese female climbers in international competitions. Zhong Qixin secured an overwhelming victory in the men’s speed event, continuing his dominance in the speed discipline.
According to Ding Xianghua, director of the Climbing and Ice Climbing Department of the Mountaineering Sports Management Center under the General Administration of Sport of China, since 2009, China’s climbing sport has been the first to achieve a breakthrough in the speed discipline. “Over the past few years, we have continued our efforts, studied strategies and tactics based on athletes’ characteristics, maintained our speed advantage, and further increased investment in the lead and bouldering events. Our efforts have finally paid off. Chinese competitive climbing achieved this historic breakthrough at this Asian Championships,” said Ding Xianghua.
