Tashkent Zoo

Tashkent Zoo is a zoo that combines culture, education, and research. Established in 1924, it initially covered only 3 hectares. By 1997, it had expanded to 227 hectares, making it the largest zoo in Central Asia. Currently, the zoo is home to 349 species of animals for visitors to observe, with a total of over 3,000 animals.

Each animal habitat in the zoo is quite spacious, and the pathways are interconnected, making it a bit of a walk for visitors. One of the highlights of Tashkent Zoo is its aquarium, which features a complete marine ecosystem where visitors can see sharks, fish, and corals. The zoo also implements a rotation system for animal rest, for example, only a few lions and tigers are let out each day at the Lion-Tiger Mountain, often hiding somewhere to sleep. In addition to live animals, there are also numerous specimens on display. Tashkent Zoo is very visitor-friendly.

There is only one main path in the zoo, so you don’t need to worry about planning your route or backtracking—all the animals are visible along the way. The animals are out during the day to meet visitors. The enclosures are not large, allowing visitors to get up close to animals like lions and elephants.
