Attraction Introduction
The Buddha statues and cave art of the Bamiyan Valley are outstanding representatives of the religious and cultural development of ancient Bactria from the 1st to the 6th century AD, blending influences from various cultures into the Buddhist art of the Gandhara civilization. The Bamiyan Valley also witnessed the tragic — and world-shocking — destruction of the two Great Bamiyan Buddhas in 2001.
