Kajaki Reservoir

Attraction Introduction   Situated in central Afghanistan, it is the nation’s largest reservoir, with the Helmand River running through it. The northern part borders Baghlan, the eastern part neighbors Khost, and the southern area is close to Kandahar. The Kajaki Reservoir was once an important source of irrigation and hydroelectric power for Afghanistan, and it has also been a subject of dispute between Iran and Afghanistan.

Features

The Kajaki Dam was also hit by U.S. bombs, and some nearby land was flooded. This bombing further worsened the already difficult lives of the Afghan people. In peacetime, water conservancy projects can benefit local communities, but in times of war, they may become military targets coveted by adversaries.
