Attraction Introduction

The Kajaki Dam is located approximately 90 kilometers northwest of Kandahar, a city in southern Afghanistan, near Afghanistan’s largest Kajaki Reservoir. It is responsible for supplying electricity to several provinces in southern and southwestern Afghanistan. As the country’s largest hydropower station, it plays a crucial role in Afghanistan’s economy and daily life.

Features

On October 31, 2001, after the U.S. military conducted a “carpet bombing” on areas controlled by Afghan armed factions, the bombing destroyed Afghanistan’s largest Kajaki Dam, located in Helmand Province. This led to a complete interruption of electricity supply from the dam to the cities of Kandahar and Lashkar Gah.
