It is the capital and largest city of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, serving as the country’s political, economic, and cultural center, as well as a historic city of heroism. It is located in eastern Afghanistan, at the southern foothills of the Hindu Kush Mountains, at 34 degrees north latitude and 69 degrees east longitude. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, it sits at an elevation of 1,950 meters.
