OMAR Landmine Museum

The OMAR Landmine Museum is located in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. OMAR stands for the Organization for Mine Clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation. The museum houses 51 out of the 53 types of landmines used in Afghanistan in recent years, making it the largest landmine collection in the country.

In recent years, the OMAR Landmine Museum has become one of the most well-known tourist destinations in Afghanistan. However, due to security concerns, the museum is not open to casual visitors, and all visit requests must go through OMAR’s headquarters. When it comes to landmines, we’ve mostly seen them in movies or on TV—it’s not easy to see the real thing up close. This museum in Afghanistan offers a rare opportunity to view them closely. The 51 types of landmines on display are truly eye-opening, with diverse shapes and sizes. The collection includes unexploded ordnance, cluster bombs, and aerial bombs used during the 2002 U.S. invasion. In addition to landmines, the museum also showcases other military equipment used in the Afghan war over the past decade, including artillery, surface-to-air missiles, incendiary bombs, rockets, metal detectors, mine-clearing equipment and protective gear, as well as a collection of former Soviet military aircraft.
