Tower of David

Introduction The Tower of David is the highest point in the Old City of Jerusalem, located in the Jewish Quarter near Jaffa Gate. This citadel, built approximately two thousand years ago by King Herod, has revealed ancient remnants over time including the Herodian city walls and three towers—Phasael Tower, Hippicus Tower, and Mariamne Tower—as well as architectural remains from the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods. The citadel also houses the Tower of David Museum of the History of Jerusalem, which displays a rich collection of historical artifacts from the Canaanites, Hebrews, Greeks, Romans, Turks, Arabs, and Israelis. In addition, to attract visitors, the Tower of David hosts a nightly sound and light show.
