Aside from the melting polar regions, these six areas are also facing the risk of disappearing within the next few years. Though it may seem they don’t directly affect our immediate surroundings, these sites are indeed being rapidly impacted, and the effects will eventually extend to the regions where we live.

Its surface sits at 424 meters below sea level, making it the lowest exposed land point on Earth. Parts of its deepest waters have even fossilized. The shoreline of the Dead Sea is shrinking by about one meter per year, and it is expected to disappear entirely by 2050.

3. Australia – Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s longest coral reef system, boasting a diverse range of marine life and breathtaking scenery. Whether you’re seeking luxury or traveling on a budget, you can experience its grandeur here. Recently, the reef has faced an unprecedented ecological disaster. Due to the ocean absorbing carbon emissions from human activities, seawater has become more acidic, leading to the bleaching of up to 93% of the coral reefs, which are now on the brink of disappearance.

4. South America – Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest spans eight countries and accounts for half of the world’s rainforests, making it one of the most vital ecological nurseries on the planet. Today, due to climate change, the rainforest has become less hospitable, with large numbers of tree species and animals facing extinction. Coupled with uncontrolled forest fires, the Amazon is rapidly shrinking.
