Introduction The Mount of Olives is located east of Jerusalem, the place where Jesus once preached, surrounded by olive trees. In the Garden of Gethsemane at the foot of the hill grows rosemary named "Memory," and next to it is the Church of All Nations in Gethsemane, also called the Church of Agony. The rock in front of the altar is said to be the place where Jesus spent his last night after being betrayed. Nearby, the Russian-style church building is the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, beside which is the Dominus Flevit Chapel. Above it is the Church of the Ascension, believed to have the footprint of Jesus when he ascended to heaven. Not far away, the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu houses the Lord’s Prayer written in 44 languages. Other notable historic sites include the Tomb of the Virgin Mary and the Pool of Siloam. Standing atop the Mount of Olives, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the cityscape of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives is scattered with Christian holy sites, and for centuries, it has also been the site of ancient Jewish burial grounds, making it a sacred and memorable place for the Jewish people as well.
