Mount Zion

Introduction Mount Zion is located south of the Old City and holds religious and historical significance for both Jews and Christians. In front of King David’s Tomb, Jews dressed in traditional clothing, holding candles and praying with fervent devotion, radiate a glow of reverence that is deeply moving. The Room of the Last Supper, a destination essential for Christians, is also located here — referring to the small upper room on the mount. Originally built during the — era, the structure features beautiful arched lines. When Muslims occupied Mount Zion in the 15th century, they converted it into a mosque and prohibited Christians and Jews from entering for approximately five centuries.

Dominus Flevit Church is a landmark on Mount Zion — a Benedictine church with a domed bell tower, believed to be the site where the Virgin Mary passed away. In the church’s crypt, there is a statue depicting the Virgin Mary lying in eternal sleep.
