Originally named Laguna Beach Resort, Velassaru Island was fully renovated in 2008 and renamed Velassaru. It served as the filming location for the famous movie "The Blue Lagoon," giving the island an especially strong fairytale-like charm. Of course, it also offers more of an otherworldly atmosphere. The welcoming speedboat carries guests from the airport to Velassaru Island in the South Male Atoll. Entering through a gap in the reef at the back of the island, the water transitions from deep blue to light blue and then light green.
