Xinhua News Agency, Taiyuan, April 22 (Zhao Jing, correspondent Xing Yunpeng) — On the 43rd World Earth Day, an event titled “Cherish Earth’s Resources, Thousands Sign Up for Green and Low-Carbon Mountain Climbing” was held at North University of China.
At 10 a.m., the event officially commenced, with a volunteer from North University of China urging, “All sectors of society should turn environmental protection and low-carbon living into action, starting with small things around us, and use our hands to hold up the sun of hope for tomorrow.”
Zhang Huixuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of North University of China, called on-site for “the whole of society to reduce energy consumption and emissions, and embrace a low-carbon lifestyle.” Zhang Baoyu, Director of the Taiyuan Bureau of Land and Resources, urged, “We must start now, act on every little thing, better protect and care for the Earth, conserve resources and protect the environment, and make new contributions to transformational and leapfrog development.”
Zhang Baoyu explained that the promotional event held at North University of China aims to raise public awareness, especially among university students, about the current state of land and resources, popularize relevant laws and environmental protection knowledge, enhance the whole society’s consciousness in protecting land resources, promote environmental protection concepts, and strive to create a positive atmosphere for green development.
It is understood that as April 22 approached, the Taiyuan Land and Resources system also produced science outreach display boards and banners, and carried out a series of promotional activities through setting up special exhibitions, establishing consultation desks to distribute informational materials, and conducting knowledge lectures on campuses.
