Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Ho Chi Minh was a Vietnamese communist revolutionary who served as Chairman of the Workers' Party of Vietnam, President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and Prime Minister of the Vietnamese government. He was born in Kim Lien village, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province, into a family of scholars. In his childhood, he was named Nguyen Sinh Cung, in his youth Nguyen Tat Thanh and Nguyen Ai Quoc; while in China, he used the name Li Shui; and in 1943, he finally settled on the name Ho Chi Minh.

At the age of 15, while studying at the National School in Hue, Ho Chi Minh already participated in secret anti-French activities. In early 1911, he dropped out of school and went to Phan Thiet to work as a teacher at a private school called Yu Thanh. At the end of 1911, Ho Chi Minh, under the name Van Ba, worked as an assistant cook on the French merchant ship "Latouche-Tréville." In 1912, he left Vietnam as a seaman and traveled through France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Algeria, and Congo. In 1945, he successfully led the August Revolution and on September 2 of the same year, delivered the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, proclaiming the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh passed away in Hanoi on September 2, 1969. To commemorate this great leader, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum was built on the west side of Ba Dinh Square after his death. The mausoleum faces east and is solemn and majestic. The body of Ho Chi Minh is preserved inside the tomb. On the red granite wall of the front hall is inscribed in gold the phrase “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” along with Ho Chi Minh’s signature. The walls on both sides of the mausoleum also feature Vietnamese inscriptions: “Long live the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” and “President Ho Chi Minh will live forever in the hearts of the people.” The mausoleum attracts numerous domestic and international visitors every day.
